About
Wide Awake Coffee is a specialty roaster founded by Rutger Callewier and Senina Cojocari in Brussels, Belgium. The roastery has expanded from a single Dansaert address into a three-location operation across the Belgian capital, built around producer relationships that the company describes as long-standing and a catalog organized into twelve named series.
The original production space occupied a building on rue de Flandre in the working-class Dansaert neighborhood. By 2022 that address had been converted into a brew bar, while roasting and quality control relocated to a separate facility the company calls The Atelier. The Coffeevine described Wide Awake as a small specialty roaster under dual ownership, pointing to an owner-operator structure rather than outside-investment growth. A second retail café followed at Flagey, and a flagship was established near St. Catherine in the city center.
Wide Awake sources single-origin lots across multiple producing countries. Current offerings include two Brazil-Colombia espresso blends sourced from Fazenda Nunes and Santa Hedwirges, a washed or natural Colombian from Finca Bethel, and two Rwandan lots — Muzo (espresso) and Simbi (filter) — from the Muzo and Simbi washing stations. Espresso coffees run €11 to €14; filter slightly higher. The roastery also produces Brew Bags, pre-dosed and sealed single-origins for immersion brewing, extending the range beyond café visits. A wholesale program serves cafés, restaurants, and offices on a long-term partnership basis.

Coffee & Beans Review
Wide Awake has accumulated third-party coverage across several specialty-coffee platforms. The Coffeevine reviewed the roastery and noted its founding duo by name, placing it within Brussels' emerging specialty scene. CoffeeRadar cited "expertly brewed espresso" and described the service as efficient and friendly. A YouTube reviewer tasting Wide Awake espresso recorded notes of "floral black tea base" and "slight hard candy sweetness" — flavor descriptors consistent with a lighter-roast East African or washed Colombian profile. TripAdvisor reviewers repeatedly mention good variety and fair pricing relative to the city's specialty market.
All three Brussels addresses offer distinct experiences. The St. Catherine flagship at rue Sainte-Catherine 2 is the most complete: full coffee menu, pastries, and lunch. The Flagey bar at rue Lesbroussart 34 in Ixelles is framed as a faster-paced espresso stop, with access to what the company calls standard and "world class" espresso options. The original Dansaert space at rue de Flandre 185 operates as a brew bar — slower, more exploratory, and focused on hand-brew and espresso across the full current lineup. Retail bags are sold across all locations and through an online shop, with a subscription option that carries a five percent discount.
