About
Sample Coffee has been roasting out of Sydney — on Gadigal land — since 2011, operating as a deliberately small, independent outfit whose house philosophy can be summarized in a single line from their own about page: led by flavours and never trends. The roastery holds B-Corp certification, a credential that puts accountability behind the identity.
Fifteen years in, Sample has maintained a scale that keeps decision-making close to the product. The founding premise — accessible, delicious, and exciting coffee, without the noise — has translated into a direct-to-consumer model that prioritizes transparency over hype. There is no evidence of a venture-backed growth phase or wholesale pivot; the operation reads as one that grew slowly and on purpose.
Sample's current lineup reflects a sourcing range that leans Colombia and East Africa, with Ecuador making regular appearances. Single origins are offered as omni roasts — a deliberate choice that sidesteps the filter-versus-espresso gatekeeping that still plagues parts of the specialty market. Recent lots include an anaerobic washed Typica from Ecuador's Eduardo Tocto (August 2025 harvest, tasting notes: red grape, pear, earl grey, kumquat) and a washed Pink Bourbon from Colombia's Carlos Imbachi. The house espresso blend, Pacemaker, sources Colombia El Meridiano alongside Ethiopia Haider Abamecha and is the only offering roasted exclusively for espresso.

Coffee & Beans Review
The Coffee Vine profiled Sample Coffee with particular attention to what the publication called a 'no-nonsense approach to making coffee accessible, delicious and exciting,' singling out B-Corp certification as a marker of the roastery's accountability commitments. Dedicated long-form press has been modest relative to the roastery's longevity, which may reflect a deliberate low-profile posture as much as anything else.
Sample sells direct through its website with a subscription tier — the Brew Crew — that ships Australia-wide at no additional cost on a flexible one-to-five-week cadence, with no lock-in and the ability to pause or cancel before each delivery. Pricing on current single origins runs from AUD $13.20 to $32.20 per bag, with the Pacemaker blend starting at $10.20. The site also maintains a set of brew guides covering AeroPress, filter, and both single-origin and blend espresso preparation — which squares with the stated goal of making good coffee less intimidating for home brewers.
