Hasbean

Hasbean is one of the United Kingdom's earliest specialty roasters, founded in Stafford in 2002 and operating from just outside that Midlands town for more than two decades. The roaster built its reputation on a rotating, highly seasonal single-origin program — the kind of approach that was genuinely unusual in British coffee when it launched — before undergoing a significant identity shift: on 26 March 2024, Hasbean officially became Ozone Coffee, consolidating under a rebrand covered by GCR Magazine as a landmark moment in UK specialty.

The business began, according to the roaster's own account, at a market stall in Stafford — a modest origin story that mirrors those of several other foundational UK independents who built direct-trade frameworks before the term was widely used. Over more than twenty years, Hasbean grew from that stall into a full roastery operation with a subscriber base, wholesale accounts, and enough standing to be described by The Right Roast as one of the already 'classic' specialty roasters in the country.

Under the Ozone name, the sourcing model centers on long-term relationships with producing partners rather than spot buying. The current offering spans a wide geographic range — Thailand, Bolivia, Kenya, and others — with process diversity that includes washed, natural, anaerobic natural, and the 'Coco Natural' method. Roast profiles skew medium to medium-dark across most SKUs. The range rotates frequently by design; the roaster is transparent that popular lots sell out and are replaced rather than held over.
